The best party I'll never get to attend

Party Girls Painting

Many people ask me about the best party I'd like to attend...and I've thought about it a lot by reflecting on some of the best parties that I've been to.  The more I think the more I realize the great time I had had less to do with the celebs or hype and more to do with the experiences I had with my gfs <3

Over a decade (try to calculate my age from the legal drinking age and you'll be sorely off! LOL) my partying team has hit the playing field with some of the best talent of all backgrounds! So here they are (in no particular order)...a list of my top team picks!  The women I'd love to have on my all-star roster at the best party I'll never get to attend cuz frankly... I just don't think I could ever get them all on the same continent at the same time!

Little Dancer

*Little Dancer*   We were university sophomores, we'd both just broken up with someone, we were teaching English for the summer at the same place and we were both half-Japanese.  That's about where the similarities ended.  She was already well-versed in clubbing, partying and boys.... me, well not so much; although I did have my moments. While she knew little outside anything pop culture...I knew almost everything in both our university textbooks.  Half Orange County, Half Yokohama and maybe 5 feet tall, I call her the *Little Dancer* because she is one of the best dancers I've ever met.  Confident, smooth and stylish, she regularly skipped classes to attend dance rehearsals for music videos and did backup for a whole array of TV programs and celebrity tours.  I'd been a wallflower my whole life before I met her.  LD encouraged me to get on the dance floor, stick out my butt,  roll my hips and whip my hair.  I'd never have become a party girl if she hadn't showed me how to dance through a dance floor to a bar rather than wall slide around it.   What do you call a girl that believes in you, shares her rice and buys you a bottle of tequila when you break up with you bf?  YOUR BEST FRIEND.

The Russian (Fox)  Tall, blonde, blue eyes, skinny with a mouth like a sailor.  She drank vodka (obviously) and spoke in a spectacular British English accent.  When she cursed people asked her to repeat; when I cursed people were just affronted.  Living within walking distance of each other we pre-gamed early and cabbed home drunk.

The Russian

Through our partying I learned that I could drink more vodka than a Russian, more jaeger than most men and that shots were the only way to go if you were to drop your own money in a club.  Our similiar backgrounds in dysfunctional families and destructive relationships with the male sex bonded us in liquor and saw us separate at the end of our evenings sometimes in tears. Russian novels filled with tragedy became my mirror.  Ultimately, I needed a new reflection and we parted ways, but The Russian still makes my list...

Ruby

Ruby I'll call her Ruby just to protect the innocent, but her real name sounds as much like a stripper name as this alias.  Introduced by a mutual friend stateside our first encounter was cautious and polite... until we left the restaurant to hit up a club and discovered we had 2 important things in common 1) the need to talk to strangers at the bar and 2) the love of the dance floor.  Ruby was wild, single , carefree and enjoyed each moment to the fullest.  We'd meet up on Mondays and find the best party no one else knew about in the most random part of town.  We'd go out on Saturday to a dead club and end up taking over the DJ booth and pulling in people off the streets.  Every encounter was an adventure.  My life long travel buddy from New York to Tokyo ;-)

Ms. Hips She looked like sex, moved like sex and I'm sure tasted like it too.

Miss Hips

Hips that asked to be grabbed and a face that men couldn't quite figure out.  Her looks and talk landed us in more VIPs,

after parties, limos and hotel rooms than a press pass.

Though she may have looked like she was suckin and fuckin, what she was really doing was teasin and talkin.  She loved the attention, didn't care about the rumors and kept it moving each time she felt betrayed by the latest crush in her life.  I watched , studied and networked.   Friends for a reason, friends for a season...but not quite a lifetime.

Halle Berry

Halle Berry  Older, wiser and kinder than me.  She has a face and a way that make men stare and women grab their men.  Usually when a 13 like her parties with a 7.... (8?)  like me you risk getting ignored or left-out but Halle has a way to make her aura rub off on you.  Her presence make you just as interesting as she is to those around.  Frustrating becas she manages to stay on good terms with everyone - I'll never learn to master that skill... She introduces, includes and chooses friends over men every day of the week.  She's my mentor.

For most people it's their friends that shape their lives...so it follows logically that for me it's been the people in my life that have shaped my parties. Parties have defined my easy-going, live in the moment view of life.  It's also been the partying scene that have made me grow up, become a bona fide partier, shot girl, receptionist, promoter, booking agent, tour manager and at last writer.  I'd like to think I've progressed without ever missing an event.

The best parties have never been about the venue, the music or even the food - it's been the people.  You can be surrounded by a million laughing people and still feel lonely or be with one person that makes you laugh and have the best time of your life.

Now for the first time in my 10 years of partying I don't have someone to be my wing person or a gf to get ready at the house with.  I've gotta learn how to go out and be comfortable with NOT walking into the party with the center of attention.  Does this mean I'll become 'that girl'?  Doubtful, but as my taste in parties matures so has my partying style.  I don't need to be with a crowd to be comfortable.  I'm able to go stag and still have a great time J
